For Journeys of the Future

For Dr Prithvi Raghavan, congratulating him on his forthcoming nuptials with Dr Shreyaa Rajpal

The journey began when your feet gave up. The dew on
The grass, the moist embrace of the morning, and the
Penchant for storytelling that you were blessed with
Took time to dissipate. You took our words seriously,
Setting off on a path that would set you afire or free.

And free you became, once you jogged your thoughts
Back to the time when summer consisted merely of
Mangoes and the rancid afterglow of love in Tarnaka.
This was lost, all without a trace, when you welcomed
With a shy smile, a journey that outlived all others.

The taste of summer was still fresh in your mouth
Along with the approval that such late epiphanies bore.
Of all the things you could have walked away with, you
Chose words that would have held some meaning had
Summer begun on 7 May and ended on 12 June this year.
