FAREWELL TO FEROZGUDA

Dear Ferozguda, I never could part
From you but with a heavy heart
When I think of the happy days
That I spent in my merry ways
When innocence wove with pride
And consoled me when I cried

Of all those evenings spent atop trees

By the railway track in summer breeze
Samosas of the bygone Good Star
Brought connoisseurs from near and far
Nobody could beat Armaan’s cream bun
Ripe sugarcane juice in the scorching sun

Of rainy evenings spent on the grass

Dreams which led to make a castle of glass
Of Dey’s, dusks, Sunsett and Demonbee
I recall days when Eclairs came for free
Of waking up before the first light
Getting drawn into this unending fight

Of Vignesh, Kunal and everyone around

Scoring runs by the tons at the JFCRA ground
Laughter shared over meaningless jokes
Oh! What a beautiful memory this evokes
I’ve lost my childhood but not this race
An abstract something that I can never chase

Of walking to school and stumbling on the ground

Scared of the dark and afraid to make a sound
Losing my heart for the first time
Finding it again entrenched with grime
First recognitions which led to more
Fascinated by things I hadn’t seen before

Of dawns which forced the lark to sing

That money and gold can never bring
Moments etched into this shattered heart
As miles away, this new life I start
The first place I call home you remain
So, goodbye, I hope I’ll see you again.
