Love, longing, desire
No longer mere expressions
Just prisons that no one escapes
Unseen hands that shaped our love
It is not a blameless world
We are building cages for us
Slowly, steadily, one brick at a time
Watching the Sun disappear into
A horizon that we used to call our own
But who are you running from?
The idea of who you once wanted to be?
Or this pathetic lost lagoon of hopelessness
Yet another battle is on its way, but
Maybe we will just have it easy today.
We have still got the strongest fire
But I am waiting for a rainstorm
To bring you back to me
I’d love you to death, but you were gone
And now that words seldom mean much
The blame is crushing, the guilt haunting
I wish my heart knew how to feel
Maybe I would have told you too
But “you and me” has room only for two
When these winds blow over this sweeping sunset
And bring to you all that has been left unsaid,
These wishes of unfinished prayers and
These remnants of our unlived days,
I hope you are listening.
