For SR, RR and everyone else who was a part of the grand spectacle in Madras on 26 January 2025
May life shower all its gifts
Upon you and your newfound friend.
May the way the setting sun shifts
Not hurt you while you apprehend
Your delight at having swum thus far
From the joys felt so long ago.
The tides, this time, will not mar
Your sweetly-scented afterglow.
I hope you remain embraced by zeal
And the cheerful embrace of a smile.
The light of your eyes will not conceal
The pain that made it worthwhile.
I wish you warmth and the caress of love
In times of grief and distress;
May the Gods be so kind from above
To not withhold their largesse.
As for me, the pain has eased to some extent
Softened by the passing of these years,
Scarred by the nature of my lament
And weeping copiously of those tears.
My work – and I – continue as before
Unvarnished by the loss I once felt so deep.
I’m surprised I sometimes ask for more
As if my heart is still mine to keep.
