Dar-O-Deewar Ki Nazron Se Dekha Karte Hai

This is the first Urdu ghazal – if it qualifies to be one – that I have written. I have used my nom de plume Mushtaq in the maqhta.


Dar-o-deewar ki nazron se bhi kabhi dekha karte hai
Jab be-lafz ho toh dard-e-dil ko samjhaya karte hai

Bezubaan har marz ki dawa ko ishq se kaboo karte hai
Tanhai me khud ke naam-o-nishaan ko dhunda karte hai

Har roz is dard se guzar kar afzal hawaaon ko choote hai
Har lafz zubaan pe ho fir bhi kuch kehne se darte hai

Bewafaa is qaabil-e-tareef anwar se vaaqif hote hai
Bekhudi rooh ko khoke bhi na zulm se kabhi darte hai

Waqt ki pabandiyon me khud se door aawazon ko sunte hai
Humnava na sahi par in galliyon ki qareebi se guzarte hai

Kaabil-e-bharosa na roobaroo hone ki ummeed rakhte hai
Khwaaishon ki dooriyon ko chhumkar yahan thaharte hai

‘Mushtaq’ har dard ki dawa lafzon ke faaslon me dhundte hai
Us qaatil ki aankhon me dekhi apni parchhai se darte hai.
