A photojourney across Sri Lanka: Mirissa

The beach in Mirissa during sunset.

This post is dedicated to the beach hamlet of Mirissa in southern Sri Lanka. The village has earned a name for itself over the past few decades owing to its stunning coastline.

This was the first place where I saw the Indian Ocean, and as is the case with most debutants, was blown away by its sheer magnitude.

The blue of the Indian Ocean is no ordinary blue- it is the blue of the deep that one does not know and can never fathom; it is the blue of the unknown which generates fear and desolation among men.

At the same time, the Indian Ocean is also the great life-giver, as it is a life-taker. It surrounds Sri Lanka on all three sides like an embrace, and it is a true pilgrimage to be a witness to its almost dulcet surroundings.
