EQUITY

You said you’d dreamt of me
And since there is equity,
I have felt much the same
Tug when it came to claim
That unhinged, untangled sin
Debarred from within
But expressed all the same;
Hence love in all but name
Has found its way towards our
Faithless souls at this ungodly hour
By making eye contact from
The juries which rendered numb
Those feelings which in effect
Seemed treacherous in retrospect.

You speak of faith and trust
And yes, indeed you must
Rejoice what came to you
Gifted and packed as brand-new
But remember what you must
Do to settle, and perhaps adjust
If it comes to that, but don’t blame
Yourself if you fail; the aim
Of this is to ask if you would give
More than you receive; and forgive
Me if I make incoherent inquiries
Around time’s well-kept diaries
And do ask yourself- since there’s equity
Do you deserve a poem from me?
