WHEN IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY

When it’s your birthday and all you can think of is the past,
Then the time has come for this question to be asked,
Why would you feel so despondent as the tears forcefully pull
Splurging today’s pleasures, looking at the glass half-full?

You’re here today, on your feet,  and stronger than before,
Life’s full of joyful sunrises that leave you wanting for more.
If yesterday’s ghosts leave you hurting to the core,
Then look at those faces in the light whom you adore.

There are the timid truths of life which you can never ignore,
The least you can do this moment is not be swept ashore.
Do your best to cling on to the rocks, try not to abhor,
The thought of those who left you wilting on the floor.

There’s so much to be glad for, so many delights to be enjoyed,
Look towards tomorrow and have these ordeals destroyed.
There’s no need for the limelight, just take some time to applaud
The idea of who you are and why today you are closest to God.
