A EULOGY: A YEAR ON

A year has passed and the seasons have changed
yet your absence reminds us of the void
that was left behind after we were estranged
following the pain that had us destroyed.

Your evincing notes still wake me at night
asking me to go beyond yesterday’s ghosts.
There’s too much of YOU involved in this fight
lurking close on the edge of despair’s coasts.

I hope they treat you nicely, I hope you’re well;
You’re bound to have etched a place
for yourself wherever it is that now you dwell;
I can see that smile upon your face.

A mixture of overwhelming sadness and grief
comes upon us whenever we hear your name
We’ve never lacked this sense of belief
but I’m lying if I say everything’s been the same.
