It’s an unending saga of finality and hope;
That’s all he has known from the outside
And everything that came inside love’s envelope
Bites him but he takes it in his stride.
Of an attachment going beyond words
And a bond which moves past hearsay,
Can’t escape being seen going backwards,
It’s time to leave, but she asks him to stay.
Moves towards her with astonishing ease,
If only to dust the flecks off her cheek.
As the sun sets along with the gentle breeze,
They move towards the horizon they seek.
Life has a way of saying thanks in reverse
And of them all, she has chosen him.
Singing from the same sheet and verse
Till it is dusk around and the lights are dim.
He’s thought of saying it someday
But those feelings do his eyes betray,
A connection which seems to portray
Walking into the sunset or sailing away.
For the world, it may be agonising to see
As we see them only when they fight.
But as he rightly points it out to me
I’ve never seen her in the morning light.
