Goodbye, Abhignya ma’am, you will never fade
like the sunset after a long, hard day
Your smile remains sheltered in the shade
even when the nonchalant sky turns grey.
You whispered to those in pain
You called out to those who were weak
And just like a flickering candle in the rain
you were strong in the roots, so to speak.
Goodbye, Abhignya ma’am, your golden soul
will live on amongst a million of your children
You were a precious jewel that life stole
too early from us, what age really is twenty-seven?
You fought until your last breath,
until they were lowering you into the deep,
you showed that you weren’t scared of death
before descending into uninterrupted sleep.
While they were taking you apart piece by piece
I was having pie and croissants a mere mile away
The sun was still shining while you lay at peace
happy at an infidel world which led you astray.
Like the tiny droplets panning the world outside
your contribution to it will be remembered
for eternity by us- your loved ones- with pride,
line by line and word by word.
Your gentle ways and infectious laugh
will always resonate amongst the grave
walls of Commerce Block and your epitaph
will bear the words, “Here lies one who gave.”
You gave unto us whatever you could have given
Now you lie in heaven as the stars call out your name
remembering past deeds and waiting to be forgiven
while Life and Death play out a dangerous game.
All I could do for you was caress a leather ball
with a piece of wood, I could have done so much more
Your sunshine was interrupted by the dark hall
of Death seemingly trying to close its door.
Your footsteps will always fall, (as we learned)
in Sainikpuri’s sacred roads by the hill
The candle may have burned
but your legend never will.
