Sitting upon the dangerous ridge,
Looking above the menacing trees,
There seems to be a speck on the bridge,
Coupled with the warm summer breeze.
I wondered what the stars tell each other
What conversation they have over dinner
Does Ursa share his greens with his brother
And is Canis really some lottery winner?
Orion has a big story to tell
As does Pisces in her own manner
But Betelgeuse can ring a distinct bell
While Rigel holds aloft the banner.
The famous Scorpius earned his keep
With a ferocious battle with the hunter,
Zeus was kind enough and let him sleep
Etched into history like some canny punter.
Do these stars exchange wise words
Over cookies and some frozen dessert?
About sightings of aeroplanes and birds
Rockets that sailed too close for comfort?
Like guardian angels, they watch over the Earth
Protecting us from harm that comes this way,
Pretty to the eyes, beautiful for what they’re worth
Like friends living a million miles away.
