DESOLATION

I see your face, bothered and lost
There’s a paper map between your eyebrows
And the wind is blowing everywhere else
You cling on to the pain dearly
As if you would be nothing without it

I recognise your suffering instantly

We’ve been down this road before
It’s as if I’m the only one who can understand
It worries you and it hurts me
This colour of you is more radiant than the red you wear

You put up a brave face but I can see you trembling

Your knees are shaking but your eyes are smiling
We’ve all had our moments of obscurity
I feel a strange pull, as if my soul and yours
Are the two last leaves of a tree embracing autumn

It is only a matter of minutes and then you’ll leave

And the bridge I’ve built between us will be lost
From tomorrow I will be looking for you everywhere
And look bothered and lost
Only that nobody will bother to know why.
