I HAVE QUESTIONS

Last night you told a thousand lies to me
Into my eyes you swore that you’ll set me free
But defeat now mocks me and the pain hurts
These chains tie me to perhaps my best efforts,

You told me you’ll give me one more chance

I’m sorry if I got a bit too excited in advance
But I have questions for you
You have some answering to do,

You showed me the light at the end of the road

But paths of hope creaked every time it snowed
You told me I was the best there was and could be
And it was out there for everyone to see,

That it was plain cheating or sugar-coated mistrust

Did well enough to lit fire in the Babylon I was thrust
Wasn’t good enough for it to do
And I have questions for you,

Victory scarred me and defeat always relieved

What hurt the most was the way I was deceived
You told me something then turned it around
Wasn’t easy to look at the monkey king you crowned,

My father told me to leave it to the heavens above

To a God whose existence I was no longer sure of
Not taking any of your nonsense,
I am your lack of a conscience.
