THIS DREAM OF TOMORROW

Short-lived emotions running over,
Washing away peals of laughter
Beads of joy kissed like a lover
Do you even know what you’re after?

Look out of the window today

And let me know what you see
Is time washing the pain away
Or are the Gods setting you free?

Walk out of this room and tell me

Does every stranger look familiar?
Is that the house by the old oak-tree
Or has your youth passed in a blur?

When did you decide to tell this to me

When did you know that it would end?
I hope you know and I hope you see
The coin of valour you want to spend.

Love is really nothing but a dream

That keeps waking you up at night
So long as you’re willing to scream
Into the dangerous and funny sunlight.

You’re living now and I hope you dance

And forget the trenches of sorrow
It offers you only a fleeting glance
Before hurtling past- this dream of tomorrow.
