LOVE WAS ENOUGH

Ego,
Our love
Longing, desire
Four blank emotions
We are no longer one now
We are just two non-entities
Two worlds apart, trying to forget
All those memories and all those days
Seems easier said than done, but trusting fate
We took a step forward to be pulled apart once again.

We are now looking into each other but we see nothing

Trying to fill all those blank spaces but sadly we can’t
I’m afraid it is not about you or me any longer
Or those terrifying memories and moments
Which we would’ve forgotten in an instance
It’s the distance that brings us close
It is the distance that separates
Any other day I’d forget you
 Only to be reminded
Of you again.

But

This is what
They say that happens
After love, after you have lost
All those lively days and cold nights
The magnetic pull of our love is compelling
But I think my heart has frozen as I can’t feel it
You will be able to set this straight but I won’t let you
Not after all those dust-covered dreams and rusted promises
Not after our spirits had soared and both our hearts had tried to fly.

Snuggling up with you on cold nights and during thundershowers

There’d never been a dull moment with you around my arms
Today you see I am as pointless as a pool beside the sea
And about as futile as an old, broken branch of a tree
Earlier, I had been lost and then I had been found
Soon you will be lost in the melange of colours
My heart processes, then paints on canvas,
It makes up a rainbow of those emotions
I used to feel but for now, please,
Let me catch my breath.

Note:
I am not very good at free-verse but this is one of my finer attempts at a freestyle version of the etheree form of poetry. I have tried to keep up with the number of syllables prescribed for every line but haven’t really managed to. However, I hope that everyone likes it. Your comments and critique are always welcome!
